Elston Village Shop is an amazing business, a great example of a community recognising the need for retail provision in their village and opening their own village shop. The shop, owned by the community entirely for the benefit of the community, has been trading since May 2005 and has already made a substantial impact on the village. Run by one part-time paid member of staff and volunteers it caters for all manner of customers from the children spending their pocket money on sweets to the more elderly villagers who appreciate being able to get their shopping locally. It is also an important focal point for village events where reminders about forthcoming events are advertised and tickets are for sale.
